Some of you may already know but the term "Thank You" in the UK has been replaced by the term "Cheers". "Cheers" in a normal English speaking context is used when making a toast. Now it has slipped into the meaning of "Thank You" in almost all contexts. This is a UK-wide phenomenon but I was informed by a Scottish friend that it only started about ten years ago. I noticed it about three years ago when I was in Southern England. I doubt very much that this will carry over to the US but it is something to note when you are here.
