I decided to take part in the torchlight parade, which marks the beginning of Hogmanay (New Years). They usually burn a replica Viking longboat on Calton Hill with pipers and everything else. This year's Hogmanay party has a Catalan theme so we also torched a large wicker bull.

Before the parade, you buy a torch (yes, a real burning thing) at St. Giles cathedral then march with the longboat to Calton hill where they set it on fire. Now, I know what you are thinking, health and safety. Well, there were no incidence that I know but I had to stifle the urge to set someone else on fire. It is just too tempting.
