I went to a lecture on Manx today given by the PR guy for the lanaguage at Manx Heritage. Very interesting talk but what struck me the most was the orthography (how you write a language). It does not look anything like Irish or Scots Gaelic. If you do not try very hard, you can figure it out but once you start thinking about it, you start to choke on it. It was fun to sit there and figure out how many words that you could guess correctly. From what my previous supervisor said, the Manx like it that way since it distinguishes it from Irish or Scots Gaelic.
