Normally, I use OpenOffice for my normal everday word processing needs. However, I have always had a copy of MS Office on my machine "just in case". Well, today, I deleted it. I had been using it as a crutch and it was just taking up space on my hard drive that I could use for something more productive. I would encourage you to do the same. If you are doing more complex documents than a letter, you should be using something like LaTeX. There is no reason to use paid-for software in this domain in the future.
