Not much to report on my front to be honest. My friend is having a ceilidh tomorrow night which I am going so that I can support her trip to the US. My friend from Aberdeen is coming down again but I cannot pin him down to a time that he will arrive which is a bit of a pain in the ass. I told him to call him when he got to town.
On the writing front, I am nearly done with my literature review, which nearly completely misses the point of my PhD. The only reason that it is there is to prove that I have read in the field, which seems kind of odd to me. I am not sure how I would have written my PhD if I had not read around the field. The most frustrating point is that my subject is obscure that there is almost no directly relevant literature so most of my literature is generalized secondary sources.
In any case, I am now at 73,000 words which is almost three-quarters of the way there. I am reaching the end of the first draft of the entire dissertation stage. From here on in, it will be mostly editing and tightening things up so that my professor is happy with it and it will pass the board of examiners. I have to talk to my professor about that as well. I can see it being hard to get someone to come to Edinburgh to do a defense so we have to start early to catch someone or I will have problems once I turn in my dissertation.
